Search the product and its code together
Start with the brand or product name when you know it, then add the lot, batch, UPC, package or date code printed on the label. Codes can repeat across unrelated products, so a matching number alone is not enough.
Where to find the identifier
- Food and infant formula: near the best-by or use-by date.
- Medicine and medical devices: on the carton, bottle or pouch.
- Appliances and toys: on the rating label or model plate.
- Barcoded products: beneath the UPC bars on the package.
What the lookup checks
Product searches query CPSC consumer-product notices and FDA food, drug and device Enforcement records together. Every result links to an official record. Compare the product name, code, package size, dates and distribution area with the item in your hand.
If no record matches
No matching record does not prove that a product is safe. Official data can arrive late, omit an identifier or be temporarily unavailable. Read which sources answered, try the brand and product name, and contact the manufacturer when an item appears dangerous. The recall checker FAQ explains these limits.
