FDA Enforcement Report H-0009-2027 · PepsiCo · Last updated

Is my Gatorade recalled?

Only if it’s a 28 oz Lemon Lime, Zero Lemon Lime, Orange or Zero Orange bottle with one of the codes below. PepsiCo is recalling 122,021 cases of these 28 oz Gatorade bottles because the ingredient label leaves off Yellow 5 (Lemon Lime) or Yellow 6 (Orange). PepsiCo says the drink itself is the same Gatorade, so the issue matters mainly if you avoid those dyes. To check, find the Best Taste Date (like JUN 07 27) and production code (like DL 091026) printed on your bottle and match both to the table. PepsiCo says no other Gatorade products are included.

Production codes and Best Taste Dates are from PepsiCo’s recall page. UPCs are per retailer notices (Wegmans, CVS, SpartanNash); FDA and PepsiCo did not print UPCs. FDA writes codes as “Lot 072926 TL”; PepsiCo writes “TL 072926”. The search box accepts either order.

* OA 082326: PepsiCo’s recall page and the Wegmans, CVS and SpartanNash notices list Orange code OA 082326 (APR 18 27), but the FDA enforcement report’s code list does not. Because PepsiCo itself lists it, treat bottles with that code as recalled.

Where is the lot number on a Gatorade bottle?

PepsiCo’s recall list identifies each affected bottle by two printed codes: a Best Taste Date (three-letter month, day and two-digit year, for example JUN 07 27) and a production code (two letters plus six digits, for example DL 091026). Look for both on your bottle and match them to the table above. Both must match the same row.

We could not open PepsiCo’s help article on reading the bottle code, so we don’t describe the exact print position here. If you can’t find the codes, call PepsiCo at 1-800-884-2867.

Where to find the lot number on other products

Why it was recalled (Yellow 5 and Yellow 6)

PepsiCo: “The Gatorade in these mislabeled bottles contains the same Gatorade that the brand has consistently used for these flavors. However, due to a labeling error, the ingredient panel does not declare the presence of Yellow 5 on the Gatorade Lemon Lime and Gatorade Zero Lemon Lime; and Yellow 6 on the Gatorade Orange and Gatorade Zero Orange.”

FDA’s enforcement report gives the reason as “Undeclared Yellow No. 6 and/or Yellow No. 5” and the quantity as “122,021 Cases (28 oz.)”. PepsiCo: “No other Gatorade products are part of this action.”

  3. Store refund policies vary. For example, CVS’s notice says a full refund can be obtained by bringing your receipt to the CVS store where you bought it.
