Jalapeño Salmonella recall 2026: which products are recalled?

Yes — fresh jalapeños and products made with them are recalled. Coast Citrus Distributors recalled jalapeños grown in Sinaloa, Mexico after FDA and CDC linked them to a multistate Salmonella Javiana outbreak: 431 illnesses, 57 hospitalizations and no deaths in 32 states as of the August 21, 2026 update. Salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole, dips and other foods made with those peppers were recalled at Trader Joe's, Walmart, Kroger, Target, Whole Foods, H-E-B, Hannaford, Stop & Shop and two Texas Costco stores. Match the store, product, UPC and date below; a jalapeño product that is not listed is not part of these recalls.

1. Taylor Fresh Foods — Trader Joe's, Walmart, Kroger, Target and more

Taylor Fresh Foods (Salinas, CA) recalled finished products made with the recalled jalapeños on August 9, 2026. They went to retail distribution centers in 26 states with a “Best If Used By” date up to and including August 16, 2026. 2. Whole Foods Market store-made salsa and guacamole

Whole Foods Market separately recalled salsas, guacamole dips and prepared foods made in its own Produce and Prepared Foods departments with Coast Citrus jalapeños. They were sold online and in stores in TX, OK, LA, AR, WI, MI, IL, IN, IA, MO, KY and OH with Best Before/By dates 8/7–8/16/2026. Products are identified by PLU code on the store label. Bring a valid receipt to any Whole Foods Market store for a full refund.

3. NatureBest and H-E-B pico de gallo, diced jalapeños and stuffed mushrooms

NatureBest Precut & Produce (Missouri City and Houston, TX) recalled NatureBest- and H-E-B-brand products distributed to stores in Texas and Louisiana between July 3 and August 5, 2026. Recalled lot codes fall within 190A26184–190A26216; some items list only specific lots in that range, so check the FDA table. Questions: (713) 278-0425.

4. Salata Jalapeno Avocado Dressing at H-E-B (dates still current)

Salata Dressings (Houston, TX) recalled Jalapeno Avocado Dressing, 12 oz PET bottle with a black cap, sold at H-E-B stores in Texas between July 13 and August 5, 2026. Best By dates (top of the label): 11/05/2026, 11/13/2026, 11/18/2026 and 11/25/2026. Unlike the fresh salsas above, these dates have not passed yet. 5. Hardie's Fresh Foods jalapeños at Costco (Stafford and Dallas, TX)

Dairyland Produce, LLC, doing business as Hardie's Fresh Foods, recalled PEPPER JALAPENO 5# repacked in clear plastic bags and sold at Costco store #1487 (12717 Network Drive, Stafford, TX) and store #0655 (8282 Park Lane, Dallas, TX). Lot codes X2741775, X2741859, X2744163, X2744706, X2746349, X2746490 and X2748743; production dates 07/11, 07/15, 07/16, 07/18 and 07/22/2026. Questions: 1-281-697-7067.

6. Coast Citrus bulk jalapeños (restaurants and food service)

The source recall covers fresh jalapeños (product of Mexico) in bulk generic Coast Tropical cardboard packaging, 10–40 lb and 1 1/9 bushel sizes, with a pack date of July 1 through July 31, 2026; there is no lot code. They went to wholesale distributors and were further distributed nationwide for processing. FDA's Enforcement Report noted no retail distribution identified as of August 10, 2026. Businesses with these peppers should not sell, serve or use them.

Meat and poultry products with these jalapeños

USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for meat and poultry products that contain the FDA-regulated jalapeños. Those products are listed by FSIS, not FDA; check the FSIS public health alert and its product list.

These Class I records from the same period cite possible Salmonella in jalapeños. FDA's Major Product Recalls page for the outbreak does not list them, and the records do not name the jalapeño supplier, so do not assume they are part of the Coast Citrus outbreak.

What to do

• Do not eat, sell or serve recalled jalapeños or products made with them. Throw them away or return them for a refund.
• If you froze jalapeños and cannot tell where they came from, FDA says to discard them.
• Wash items and surfaces that touched the product with hot soapy water or a dishwasher.
• Symptoms usually start 6 hours to 6 days after exposure and include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. Call a health care provider for diarrhea with a fever above 102°F, diarrhea for more than two days, bloody diarrhea, vomiting that stops you keeping liquids down, or signs of dehydration.
