Which vehicles are involved?
Per NHTSA and the Part 573 report: certain 2022–2026 Toyota Sienna Hybrid vehicles, described as 7-passenger configuration — approximately 228,367 potentially involved in the U.S. Production dates in the filing: September 16, 2021 – July 20, 2026. What is the defect?
NHTSA summary: “Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2026 Sienna Hybrid 7-passenger vehicles. The second-row seat backs may fail to remain secured in the event of a crash.”
Consequence: “A seat back that is not secured may fail to properly protect an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.”
In plain terms from the Part 573 report: each second-row seat has an integrated seat belt pretensioner and an outboard recliner with interlocking teeth. Under certain frontal crash conditions, pretensioner deployment can create oscillation in the recliner mechanism that allows it to disengage from a locked position, so the seat back may not stay secured.

Is the repair free? Software or seat backs?
NHTSA remedy text: “Dealers will update the supplemental restraint system (SRS) electronic control unit (ECU) software. For vehicles equipped with the "Mobility as a Service" (MaaS) package, dealers will replace the two second-row seat backs. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 7, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 26TB24 and 26TA24.”
- Most vehicles: free SRS ECU software update (controls the pretensioner).
- MaaS package (about 200 of MY 2022–2025): dealers also replace both second-row seat backs with units that use a different recliner mechanism.
- Owner notices: planned December 7–21, 2026 (Part 573); API also lists letters expected December 7, 2026.
- Dealer notification: October 20, 2026 (Part 573).
- U.S. phone: Toyota customer service 1-800-331-4331.
