Is my Kayem, Al Fresco or McKenzie product recalled?

Check the UPC on your package against the list below. On October 17, 2026, USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced that Kayem Foods Inc. of Chelsea, Massachusetts, is recalling about 1,584,361 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products that may have experienced temperature abuse in a warehouse cooler. FSIS says they were produced approximately March 31 to October 7, 2026, and shipped to retail and foodservice locations nationwide and to Hong Kong. Kayem’s list covers 68 products sold under Kayem, Al Fresco, McKenzie, Triple M, Jordan’s, Deutschmacher, Genoa, Essem and Winnisimmet, including hot dogs, Fenway Franks, Al Fresco chicken sausages and meatballs, bacon, ham, turkey breast and deli meats. There have been no confirmed reports of illness. Don’t eat them: throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

Expired dates are still recalled. Many best-before dates on the list (for example 06/29/2026) have already passed. Those products are still part of the recall; check your freezer and refrigerator too.

How to check your package

1. Match the brand and item name to the list.
2. Match the 12-digit UPC under the barcode.
3. Check that the best-before date falls within the listed range.
4. Look for “EST. M/P 7839,” “EST. P 20935A” or “EST. M 9520” inside the USDA mark of inspection (FSIS).

Why it was recalled: temperature abuse, not Listeria

FSIS: “Kayem Foods Inc., a Chelsea, Mass. establishment, is recalling approximately 1,584,361 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry products because they may have experienced temperature abuse during storage.”

FSIS says the problem was discovered “after the firm received a retail customer complaint regarding warm product temperatures at point of delivery on October 1, 2026 … stored various RTE meat and poultry products in a warehouse cooler that experienced temperature deviations.”

FSIS did not name any pathogen. This is not a Listeria recall, and FSIS reports no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of these products. FSIS’s recall bulletin labels it a Class I recall (health risk: high).

Two different date ranges, explained

• FSIS (production window): the products were “produced approximately March 31, 2026, to Oct. 7, 2026.” Source: FSIS recall 026-2026.
• Kayem says (storage and shipping window): “These products, stored and shipped between June 7, 2026, and October 14, 2026, are being recalled due to the recent discovery of a cooling system malfunction at one of the company’s warehouses that resulted in storage temperature deviations.” Source: Kayem notice, Oct. 16, 2026.

The two ranges describe different things (when the food was made vs. when it was stored and shipped), so don’t rely on either one alone. The UPC list and best-before range above are the practical check.

1. Don’t eat the product.
2. Throw it away or return it to the place of purchase (FSIS).
